A Fresh Visit to the Empty Tomb

Ask Jesus for the fresh experience that will invigorate your faith and send you forth from the empty tomb with a story to tell.

Our verse for today comes from Mark 16:5, ” And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. “

The local arena hosts all sorts of events throughout the year, but the two primary activities are college basketball games and professional hockey. Occasionally someone will share their tickets with me and I will go to one of the games. A few years ago, I was able to go to a basketball game, and then within a few weeks, go again for a hockey game. The tickets that I used for both events happened to be in a particular section where several concessions and restrooms were located on the mezzanine in the area behind the top row of seats. And it just so happened that on these two separate occasions, I made the same critical mistake, one that was perhaps worse than any turnover or defensive lapse that occurred on the court or ice below. Needing a quick stop in the restroom, I stepped into the one behind where I was congregating and immediately sensed something was different. There were no urinals along the wall. And leaving the restroom, the look I received from the woman who exited her area confirmed my fears, that I had walked into the wrong restroom. The uncanny part of this tale is that I did it again just a few weeks later. Same mistake, same reaction. Alarming.

The women at the tomb were alarmed when they walked in. They may have thought they were at the wrong grave site since Jesus was gone and a young man in a robe was there, sitting on the right side, talking to them. But the fact that they experienced the unexpected only confirmed that they were in the exact right spot, just like the angel. They were on the glory side of the resurrection. The Savior had risen and death had been overcome. It took a while for that to sink in, but once it did, they were never the same. It may have sunk in so far and so long ago for you that you need a fresh visit to the empty tomb. If that’s true, then seek out Jesus. Don’t be alarmed, but expect to receive the unexpected.

As we seek Him today, ask Jesus for the fresh experience that will invigorate your faith and send you forth from the empty tomb with a story to tell.
