Be Concerned About what Your Father is Concerned About

Take that extra minute to consider what you are concerned about and what God is concerned about. Seek to lay down your intentions for His.

Scripture

Our verse for today comes from 1 Corinthians 9:9, ” For it is written in the law of Moses, ‘You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain.’ Is it oxen God is concerned about? “

Background

My two youngest girls are on the swim team at the pool where we are members. Last night, they had their first meet of the year. For all those on the team, one of the first things you do when you arrive at the pool is to check the list of events to find out which races you are swimming. Each age group and stroke has a main event and the heats. The main event is the race that counts towards your teams score, and the heats are exhibitions that allow the other swimmers to participate and experience the race atmosphere. When we checked the spreadsheet list, however, our girls’ names were hand-written and added at the bottom of each heat event. Of the seven available races for them to swim, they were not included in any main events. So we asked the coach about it. He explained that there had been some confusion between himself and the person we had paid regarding getting them included on the roster, and so the only spots for them to swim that night would be in the heats. Needless to say, I was not too excited with this explanation. I wanted to talk with the lady that we registered with, right then, not to berate her, but to hear her explanation as to how this oversight occurred. I wanted her to know that we were dissatisfied and give her a chance to apologize. We had paid and signed up in plenty of time, and so our girls had the right to swim in some main events.

Application

Except my girls were not oxen. They had something coming to them, but God was actually concerned with something much bigger. The girls are of the age where they are oblivious to swimming main events and earning points for their team. They want to race a few races and get their ribbons once they’re done. But God wanted me to process the importance of the situation. He had me examine my rights and my will. He asked me about my reasons and my intentions. And my answers made it easy for me to keep my gripes to myself. And when my baby won her heat, nothing else mattered. God’s way had shown itself superior, again.

Charge

As we seek Him today, take that extra minute to consider what you are concerned about and what God is concerned about. Seek to lay down your intentions for His.
