Believe and See Him Work

Remember who gave His best so that you could be your best. Believe and then ask God to help you believe more.

Our verse for today comes from Mark 6:5-6, ” Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief. “

If God is limitless and has all power, can He create a rock so large that even He cannot move it? That question did not originate with me, but is the age-old query regarding the omnipotence of God. If He can do anything, how can He create something that He cannot do? And if He can’t, then how can He do anything? It seems rather pointless to mentally grapple with these traps when we worship a God who created all that there is out of nothing, who is three and one at the same time, who has always existed and always will, and who dwells in heaven while also living in the hearts of those He calls His children. Once the philosophers get around to explaining these other-worldly truths, then maybe they can worry about a rock too big for God. And for a God who is limitless, who has seen it all before any of it ever happened, it would make sense that He would be impossible to impress. No philanthropic gift, no selfless act of service, no creation or invention, and no accomplishment or achievement could begin to compare to the wonder of the human eye or the microcomputer that is our brain, each of which was originally formed from dust. So how could we ever hope to amaze the God who gives us the very breath we breathe?

Well, apparently there is one thing that makes Him marvel, and that would be mankind’s unbelief. Yours, mine, and theirs. But it’s not just unbelief, it’s the manner and magnitude to which we embrace it. Jesus was doing things right before their very eyes, and the ones who knew Him best rejected Him like they would their vilest enemy. Everywhere, people refused to believe. Then and now. And the things that we choose to accept and put faith in can marvel a God who cannot be surprised. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, about you and everything that you will do that does not emanate from God. All that has occurred, and anything that can occur, will be because of Him. That’s a lot to believe in. So don’t strive to astonish God. Desire to be and do all that His revelations are calling you to.

As we seek Him today, remember who gave His best so that you could be your best. Believe and then ask God to help you believe more.
