Believe in Your Heart What you Testify with Your Mouth

Be sure to leave behind evidence that you believe in a big God. Let His words speak to you, and then go believing.

Scripture

Our verse from today comes from Luke 7:7, ” Therefore I did not even think myself worthy to come to You. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. “

Background

Ask Siri. You have likely asked it a question, or told it to do something. Now I don’t know a lot about smart phones and apps, but Siri is a software app that can interact with the user and even adapt itself to the user’s preferences and tendencies. My buddy at work, whose wife and mom share the same name, said that his Siri figured out which name and number corresponded to his mom, and which went with his wife, all without him ever specifically labeling them as such. So now he just says the word, and Siri knows exactly what to do. That’s an amazing piece of technology, and that’s just the beginning of what is to come in Artificial Intelligence.

Application

But that’s nothing compared to what our Savior offers, is it? Everything that we know and all that exists came to be by Him just saying the word. So the centurion’s faith in the word of Christ makes perfect sense. He somehow knew that Jesus could speak and make happen whatever He wanted. And we know that’s true, too. But do we believe it? And before you say yes, look at yourself from an outsider’s point of view and try to examine the evidence. Where in your life is the complete confidence that God’s word is enough? What issues do you have that you faithfully send to Him, content to wait on Him and the word that He will give? Our daily lives are filled with giving and receiving instructions and directions, some of which are followed and much of which are ignored. We repeat ourselves and encounter frustration and disgust, so it’s natural to be skeptical about just saying the word and having it be done. But don’t push your world onto God; rather, bring Him into your world. Believe what you say you believe. And then go and live like it.

Charge

As we seek Him today, be sure to leave behind evidence that you believe in a big God. Let His words speak to you, and then go believing.
