Don’t Second Guess God

Accept that God does not need you to proofread His instructions, and allow Him to do things in and through you in whatever way He sees fit.

Our verse for today comes from Mark 11:5, ” But some of those who stood there said to them, ‘What are you doing, loosing the colt?’ “

We’ve all barked out some instructions that, when considered rationally, do not make much sense. Fortunately for most of us, we have not had them printed on an item that is available for all to see. But there are some products that have directions on them that could make you do more than scratch your head in wonder. There was a Dial soap labeled, ” Directions: Use like regular soap. ” The packaging for the Rowenta brand iron warned, ” Do not iron clothes on body. ” Sainsbury’s peanuts went the extra mile to prevent an allergic reaction by stating, ” Warning: contains nuts. ” And in case you didn’t quite understand the instructions on how to buckle your seat belt, American Airlines continued its explanations of the obvious by stating on their peanuts, ” Instructions: open packet, eat nuts. ” Jesus was not short on instructions. And when your message is such that it turns the world as all know it upside down, then one might expect for the life and words of the Teacher to be less than conventional. Jesus was the ultimate in counter-cultural living, and even His smallest of details could contain the oddest of ingredients. Certainly choosing your betrayer to be one of your closest followers was not in any textbook. Restoring sight with mud or being bathed in oil by a prostitute might turn a few heads. Sending two disciples to take a stranger’s colt appears random as well.

But in the midst of these incidents, there was always something to consider. Were you the one involved, what would you have done? Would you have feared being seen as a thief and gone to find someone to ask permission for the colt? Would you have been the ones questioning the disciples for taking the animal? Would you later have thrown your coat down to be trampled by the coming King, or would you have scoffed at its lunacy? Somehow, you will receive instruction today from God Almighty. How odd will it sound to you, and what will you then do with it?

As we seek Him today, accept that God does not need you to proofread His instructions, and allow Him to do things in and through you in whatever way He sees fit.
