Utah Enacts Law with ‘Massive Loopholes’ for Minors Seeking Gender Transition Procedures“…

“If the point was grabbing headlines, Utah’s SB 16 has done the trick. More than a dozen outlets, from Fox News to Newsweek to CNN, described the bill Utah Governor Spencer Cox (R) signed Saturday as a “ban” on “gender-affirming” procedures for minors. Unfortunately, the bill no more banned ideological experiments on children than cross-sex hormones are “gender-affirming.” The bill imposed a “moratorium” on “hormonal transgender treatment to a patient who: (a) is a minor … and (b) is not diagnosed with gender dysphoria before the effective date of this bill.” But the moratorium will only last until the state Department of Health and Human Services conducts a “systematic medical evidence review,” the purpose of which “is to provide the Legislature with recommendations to consider when deciding whether to lift the moratorium.” The Health Department must submit its completed report to the legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee, which is chaired by the bill’s sponsor.” – Washington Stand

Teachers are being told to dismantle their classroom libraries“…

“Teachers at a school district in Florida have been instructed to “cover or store” books in their classroom libraries pending reviews. In an internal training video, Duval County Public Schools superintendent Diana Greene announced the launch of a formal review of classroom libraries, which generally consist of books either donated or purchased by teachers themselves, to ensure that they are in compliance with Florida legislation passed last summer.” – LGBTQ Nation

Missouri AG doubles down on firing school officials who took students to drag show: ‘It’s a huge problem’“…

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has doubled down on his office’s plans to explore “all legal options” against middle school officials who gave the green light for their students to attend a drag queen breakfast. “It’s a huge problem,” Bailey said Wednesday on “Varney & Co.” “State statute in Missouri governs how human sexuality is to be taught by educators, and it doesn’t authorize drag shows. There’s also a parental notification requirement. So the school district undermined the statutes by taking the kids to the drag show without notifying the parents.” – Fox News

MIT faculty ‘increasingly afraid to express their views,’ survey finds“…

“The Massachusetts Institute of Technology continues to support a campus community that stymies academic freedom and free speech, a newly released Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression survey report states… “Large portions of MIT faculty and students are afraid to express their views in various academic settings. Faculty and students are at least as afraid of each other as they are of the administration,” Komi Frey, the author of the FIRE report, told The College Fix via email.” – The College Fix

West Virginia bill would protect minors from transgender treatment“…

“The West Virginia House passed a bill on Friday that would ban physicians from performing transgender surgeries on minors or prescribing hormone treatments to them. The legislation passed 84-10, and supporters of the bill say there is not enough long-term data about the risks to justify the treatments. The legislation will now go to the state Senate before heading to the governor’s desk.” – World
