Enjoy the Privilege of Having a Father in Heaven

Enjoy all that comes from having a Father in heaven who loves you.

Our verse for today comes from John 1:12, ” But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name. “

A buddy at work has adopted some children from the Philippines, and yesterday one of them became a US citizen. There are generally two ways to become a citizen of this country. One is through naturalization, and the other is through your parents. Now the extra cool thing about my friend’s situation is that he is a native French Canadian married to an American, and so several years ago, he went through the naturalization process himself to become a US citizen. But in his son’s situation, he being under a certain age and having been adopted for at least two years, he was able to join our ranks on account of his relationship with his parents. Ordinarily, those desiring to become citizens must be a permanent resident for at least five years just to be eligible to apply for naturalization. And then there are requirements around your length of residence immediately preceding the application, your abilities to manage the English language, and your understanding of US history and its government. And, one must be of good moral character and abiding to the law in order to become an American. But in this case, a Filipino child, even one with a French Canadian dad and a Yankee mom, was granted the awesome privilege of now and forever belonging to the family of Uncle Sam.

We who are brothers and sisters of another mother with the same Father, we also belong to a family that is nothing of our doing. Just as the adopted son from the Philippines could do nothing on his own to become a part of his new family, we who are the children of God have no part and can take no credit in being received into the fold of our Heavenly Father. All we are asked to do is receive Him, take into our hearts the free gift He offers, and believe in His name that His promise is true and His strength is able. No history test to take, no language to be learned, no law to abide by, and certainly no moral requirements must be met to be accepted. Our Savior took care of it all.

As we seek Him today, thank God for your place in His eternal family, and enjoy all that comes from having a Father in heaven who loves you.
