Experience Life Through Christ

Make plans to experience more - more of life, and more of the Giver of Life.

Our verse for today comes from John 10:10, ” The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. “

Growing up, it seemed like we filmed a lot of home movies in our family. My folks did a pretty good job of documenting birthdays and holidays, not to mention the special family outings and unique individual accomplishments of us kids. And every now and then, we would get out the movie projector and the screen and make a night of watching those old 8mm reels. And those times were precious, for we didn’t have the instant gratification and over-saturation of recording everything on our phone like we do now. Even though it seemed like we had boxes full of video tape, the moments that were captured were far more rare than it seemed at the time. And that’s undoubtedly why we loved watching them so. We all, especially our parents, got a chance to relive the past and experience again the joy that came with those snippets of time. Last week, we took our kids snow skiing. None of us had ever seen ski slopes in person, much less flown down one, so this was a special family outing and a unique individual accomplishment all rolled together. My wife and I didn’t ski – the risk of injury wasn’t quite worth it – but we loved every minute of it just the same.

For sitting in the lodge, watching through the window as our six kids went from from crashing on the bunny slopes to flying down the mountain, was like making and watching a home movie over and over. We would offer encouragement and instruction vainly at the glass, just like we spouted comments at the movie screen forty years ago. Our hearts would leap with each successful run while we cringed whenever one wiped out, and we would soak up their excitement when they ventured in to warm up and refuel. It was as close to living in a dream as I could imagine. There will only be a limited number of opportunities for each of us to experience God’s abundant outpouring on this side of the grave. My suggestion is to seek them out and taste of Him whenever you can.

As we seek Him today, make plans to experience more – more of life, and more of the Giver of Life.
