Faith is a volume control, not a light switch.

Faith is not static but varies over the life of the believer.

Quick Quote – Source – Jeff Hilles

A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – As believers, our desire is to have infinite faith and hope that our trust in Jesus will see us through the trials of life and on to Heaven at its conclusion. Like turning on a light switch in a dark room, we want to believe that our past spiritual blindness is now bathed in an unchanging bright light of faith.

Realty is that faith is not so simple. It waxes and wanes, based on how close we are to our Savior, how pervasive is our sin nature, and how much pressure the world is putting on our shoulders at any given time. The Bible makes the point that

Matthew 17:20b For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Finally, we need to recognize that faith, more than works, is what the Lord desires from our hearts.

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

And the source of faith is ultimately from Scripture…

Romans 10:17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
