Have Faith and do Not Doubt

Do not fear or worry or doubt at all. For once, have complete faith in Jesus Christ the King.

Our verse for today comes from Mark 5:36, ” As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, ‘Do not be afraid; only believe.’ “

There used to be a saying in the hospitality business that if a guest had a positive experience, they would tell three people. And if they had a negative one, they’d tell ten. In today’s era of social media, the numbers are presumed to be exponentially higher such that, a good review could get shared with 3,000, but a bad report could find an audience of 100,000. Knowing the stakes, and observing what has happened to companies that experience negative media attention, businesses now spend a significant amount of time and resources preparing for and dealing with public relations issues. Some people might simply call it damage control, but depending on how well an organization, or an individual, responds to the uproar, the impact can potentially be greatly reduced or altogether eliminated. Jesus was in the midst of a crisis with the synagogue leader. He was on His way to the man’s house to heal his daughter, but delays prevented Him from arriving before news came that the girl had died. And now Jesus had a real problem on His hands.

The dad was a seeker who believed that Jesus could heal. But now the daughter was dead and not just sick, so what would the dad’s reaction be? Well, Jesus didn’t wait to find out.
As soon as He heard the condition of the girl, He immediately got the attention of the dad and spoke directly to his heart with the perfect words of encouragement and hope. He struck at the fear that Satan wanted to plant and reminded him that faith is enough to sustain him. Faith would be the difference between him and the mockers that awaited Jesus at the house. Faith would witness a sleeping twelve-year-old arise and become a young woman one day. Faith would swallow up the fear that says the news is too bad, the damage is too widespread, and all hope is lost. Companies need faith to make it through times when things go south. You and I need faith because that’s really all there is. And with it, we can go with Jesus through any situation.

As we seek Him today, have faith. Do not fear or worry or doubt at all. For once, have complete faith in Jesus Christ the King.
