Let God Turn You Around

Ask God to turn you back in the direction that He wants you to go. If you are covered in doubt, let the truth of His Word direct your next step.

Our verse for today comes from Genesis 4:25, ” And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, ‘For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.’

What do you do when it looks like God has made a mistake? When He has led you somewhere or asked something of you, and then it all seems to backfire or blow up in your face, what then? When He has placed a desire within you or given you a calling of some sort, what is your response when it takes you down a dead end road or brings you hardship and difficulty? If your firstborn son killed your other child, and then was cursed by God Himself, what do you say to the One who gave you these children and supposedly knew what He was doing? Would it be an understatement to say that you would have some questions and doubts concerning God and your understanding of what He was doing in your life? We don’t know how Adam and Eve dealt with the tragedies of their children. Undoubtedly they thought back to their failures in the garden and wondered what more could go wrong. We do know that Adam was one hundred thirty years old when they had Seth. Maybe years and years had passed since they lost Abel. Maybe they spent many of those years angry at God for how things had played out and the roles that had seemingly been thrust upon them. It’s impossible to say.

But eventually, there must have been some reconciliation. Eventually, Adam and Eve had to put their trust back in the One who made them. Eventually, they had to go back to the things that God had told them, to be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. It might have been difficult, but there must have come a point where they realized that God was in control, and regardless of the messes they had made, following God’s instruction was the only way to go. I don’t know what dead end you may be staring at. You may have so many that you can’t see anything else. You may just be wondering or beginning to doubt. You may have even lost a child, literally or figuratively. But God is still God, and His words to you are no less true that when things were going smoothly for you. He’s with you, and He’s able, and He has something gracious appointed for you.

As we seek Him today, ask God to turn you back in the direction that He wants you to go. If you are covered in doubt, let the truth of His Word direct your next step.
