Let God’s Design Rule Your Life

Let God's design and desire for victory and freedom in your soul live itself out. Don't let something you've created in your mind take precedence over God's mighty Spirit.

Our verse for today comes from Mark 10:6, ” But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. “

I don’t know much about law, and I don’t particularly try to hide it. It always amuses me when people spout off what is supposedly legal or not, or what someone has or doesn’t have the right to do. I wonder where they have gotten their information, or which legal code could be cited to support their claims. Where is it written that drivers can speed up to nine miles over the limit without getting pulled over? Is possession really nine-tenths of the law? One of the concepts most of us are familiar with, though generally through TV or the like, is that of precedent. Basically, this tenet provides that the decision of an earlier court can be taken as law, and that any subsequent case with the same circumstances can be resolved in like manner. Generally, a lawyer will cite the plaintiff and defendant of the earlier case and use the court’s decision in that dispute to support his current case. How often this occurs in real life, and how effective it actually is, I do not know. Like I said, I know little about the law. But God knows a lot. And He knows about precedent.

In fact, Jesus uses it here in His explanation to the Pharisees about the legal status of divorce. When they ask Him whether divorce is lawful of not, He tells them Moses made an exception for it because the people were so hard-hearted. But the binding precedent, He explains, was established at creation, when God made one woman to be with the one man. There was not another option, and they came together to form a new union of one flesh. No one would rip their body in two, and neither should any tear apart the union of man and wife. We always mess it up when we stray from God’s design and intentions. You can feel it happening within your heart when you insist that something go a certain way. Or when fear or pride hold you back, or lift you up. Or when you ask God if He really meant something He said. I’m not a lawyer, but that sounds like sin. I know it certainly feels like it within my own heart.

As we seek Him today, let God’s design and desire for victory and freedom in your soul live itself out. Don’t let something you’ve created in your mind take precedence over God’s mighty Spirit.
