Daily Headlines on contemporary issues that impact a Biblical Christian worldview.
“North Carolina bill increasing punishments for rioters will become law after no governor veto”…
“North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper announced Friday he would not use his veto stamp on a piece of legislation increasing penalties for rioters after he blocked a similar bill in 2021.
The GOP-controlled legislature sent the bill to the governor’s desk last Thursday after it passed with a bipartisan vote in the House and Senate. The Democratic governor had until Monday to sign or veto the bill, which was proposed following the nationwide riots in 2020 following the death of George Floyd.”
“A Florida bill banning ‘ethnic intimidation’ flyers aims to stop the state’s neo-Nazi rise”…
“Responding to a recent rise in neo-Nazi activity in his state, a Jewish lawmaker in Florida is trying to outlaw displays of “religious or ethnic animus” on private property in his state.
H.B. 269 takes aim at a variety of activities that neo-Nazi groups in the state have undertaken, from distributing flyers with hate speech to broadcasting intimidating messages in public places.
Those groups’ activity has been rising in Florida for several years, according to a 2022 report by the Anti-Defamation League titled “Hate in the Sunshine State.” The report was published before the founder of the Goyim Defense League, which distributes antisemitic literature in public places and to private homes, relocated to Florida.”
“Caitlyn Jenner defends girls’ basketball team banned for refusing to compete against male athlete”…
“Trans-identified TV personality and former California gubernatorial candidate Caitlyn Jenner is taking the side of a Christian school banned from participating in Vermont sporting events after its girls’ basketball team refused to play a team with a biologically male athlete.
Mid Vermont Christian School was banned by The Vermont Principals’ Association (VPA) from participating in any future athletic competitions following the school’s decision to forfeit a game during the girls’ state basketball playoffs due to the opposite team having a trans-identified male.”
“‘After Extensive Prayer,’ Wyoming Governor Bans Abortion Pills, Protects Most Children from Abortion”…
“Wyoming became the first state to explicitly ban abortion pills the same day it enacted a pro-life law protecting nearly all unborn children and another act barring middle- and high-school-aged boys from participating in girls’ sports.
“After extensive prayer,” Governor Mark Gordon (R) signed a bill Friday that prevents abortionists from distributing “any drug for the purpose of procuring or performing an abortion,” except to protect the life or physical health of the mother, or for babies conceived in rape or incest. Abortionists who violate the law would be charged with a misdemeanor and penalized with six months in jail and/or a $9,000 fine.
“By passing this legislation, Wyoming made a clear statement that we wish to protect the unborn and women from these dangerous drugs that are used in the taking of an unborn child’s life through abortion,” said the bill’s sponsor, state Senator Tim Salazar (R-Riverton).”
“California proposes bill to protect abortionists”…
“California lawmakers proposed a law Friday to protect doctors who mail abortion drugs to other states. The bill would also stop California from extraditing a doctor facing abortion-related charges in another state. It would also shield suspected violators from paying fines and allow them to sue anyone who tried to keep them from providing abortions. The bill would not protect a California abortionist who performs an abortion in another state.
Do other states have laws like this? Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Maryland, and Vermont have passed or proposed similar bills protecting abortionists. Some pro-life groups say the group of laws violates Article 4, Section 1 of the Constitution, which says states must give “full faith and credit” to each other’s laws. Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon also signed the first state law specifically outlawing chemical abortions on Friday. Chemical abortions are already restricted in 15 other states that protect babies in nearly all cases. Wyoming is the first state to have legislation to protect babies from chemical abortions in a separate law. “
“Arkansas’s governor signs anti-trans bathroom bill”…
“On Tuesday, Arkansas passed a new law banning transgender students at public schools from using bathrooms that match their gender identity. Republican Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed the law, making Arkansas the fourth state in the U.S. to pass this type of anti-trans legislation.
As the AP reports, the law prohibits trans people from using multi-person restrooms and locker rooms in the state’s public and charter schools that do not match the sex they were assigned at birth. Superintendents, principals, and teachers who violate the law by allowing trans students to use facilities that match their gender identity face fines of at least $1,000. The law also allows parents to file private lawsuits against schools to enforce the measure.”
“NYC schools using tax dollars to host LGBTQ writers promoting books on gender identity”…
“In 2015, the NYC Department of Education partnered with Lambda Literary, an LGBTQ literary organization, to implement their LGBTQ Writers in School program in the NYC public school system. The program arranges for LGBTQ writers to visit K-12 classrooms to discuss LGBTQ literature and provide “safe spaces for students to talk about great books, queer life, and how to thrive as an LGBTQ person.” Books are chosen by the teachers from a suggested book list, and the students are required to read the books prior to the visit. “
