“Love the Lord” and “love our neighbor” have both an order and priority.

Quick Quote – Source – Jeff Hilles

A Biblical Christian worldview perspective – Many merge these two “greatest commandments” in Scripture. Some falsely believe that following the second is the only necessary command to demonstrate allegiance to the first. However, looking at the body of Scripture, one can clearly see there is both a priority and order to God’s “two greatest commandments”. The second, “love your neighbor” builds from the first… as in we have to love God (as Christians) in order to express Christian love to others. That order is an important designation given that so many reject or ignore Biblical commands and believe they are acceptable in God’s eyes by just trying to achieve the second.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. – Matthew 6:33

And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments; this is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, so that you should walk in it. – 2 John 1:6
