Man Cannot Defend God

Who is God

God is all-knowing, all-powerful, everywhere, sovereign, and the creator of all things. We are His children, made in His image but woefully lacking in the attributes just mentioned. One of the greatest fallacies of mankind is the statement, “there is no God”. To make that claim, one would have to be all-knowing, and who on this earth could make that claim?

Man Defending God

However, Christians are called to both define and defend God from an onslaught of false teachers and those who claim to “know” there is no Creator. We are forced to use human language to justify the supernatural. We constantly try to explain the world from God’s perspective, by interpreting Scripture, while admitting “His ways are above our ways”. Sunday School answers to questions like why God allows sin, pain, disease, hatred, greed and so many other negative attributes are human answers to supernatural questions. They fall short and are easily rejected by the vast majority who do not wish to be judged by One who claims to “love” and is to be considered “perfect”.

Faith is Our Ultimate Defense

In the end, when all the apologetics-based evidence for God is dismissed, one is left with a single, profound place in our defense of God and Biblical Christianity… faith. It can be challenged, discredited and discounted, but if we don’t have faith and if we are not willing to defend it, we are not who we say we are. We are hypocrites hiding behind a mask. There is no other way to define our relationship with God than faith from the heart, regardless of how we are seen by those looking in from the outside. To the born-again Christian, faith is not the intangible, fuzzy feelings those who have never experienced it, try to make it out to be. For the believer, it comes with both assurance and conviction because it emanates from the Holy Spirit, within.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
