Ron DeSantis threatens statewide venues for hosting “A Drag Queen Christmas” event… Florida’s Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) is investigating the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale and other venues after receiving “multiple complaints” of a December 26 “A Drag Queen Christmas” event that was allegedly “sexually explicit” and “marketed to children,” The Hill reported… If the venues are found to have violated the DBPR’s licensing standards, they could have their business and liquor licenses revoked, essentially putting them out of business. The investigation could also be referred to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for “potential criminal liability.” – LGBTQ Nation

UMC’s North Georgia Conference Blocks Churches from Leaving Denomination… The United Methodist Church (UMC) in Georgia announced it will temporarily block member churches from leaving the denomination due to the spread of “intentionally deployed” misinformation about the United Methodist Church, its leaders, and its disaffiliation procedure.” – CBN News

Biden approves banning TikTok from federal government phones… Having TikTok on a device issued by the federal government has become illegal under a sprawling spending bill for the upcoming fiscal year signed by President Biden on Thursday. The government has up to 60 days to set up guidelines to impose the ban. While the Chinese-owned app is already not allowed on many federal government devices — including on U.S. House mobile devices — the measure in the newly enacted spending bill expands the prohibition. The ban will likely result in a hit to TikTok’s reputation at a time when the Biden administration is still attempting to complete a national security review of the popular app.” – NPR News

Questions loom at CNN after difficult year… CNN is facing a turning point in 2023, after a bruising year that brought significant change to the network’s corporate structure, editorial leadership and programming… People inside and around the network for much of 2022 have described a feeling of unease, which was punctuated by a round of layoffs rolled out in December by new president Chris Licht… Licht is the new man in charge at the cable news giant, tasked with increasing the network’s dipping profitability amid a bleak economic outlook for all major news organizations. – The Hill

Sweden Pulls Back from Gender Affirming Care on Minors: ‘Good Psychosocial Care Is Fundamental’… Sweden has officially announced that it is pulling away from providing transgender treatment to minors. Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare (NBHW) recently changed its treatment guidelines for children with gender dysphoria admitting that “care has been characterized by both deficiencies in accessibility and a lack of knowledge about the results of the care.” – CBN News
