The Trafalgar Group published a poll from a survey of likely voters earlier this month on the subject of transgender indoctrination of children. The poll had a “Margin of Error” of 2.9% with a “Confidence” level of 95%. It should be stated at the outset that Trafalgar has been rated very highly (A-) in their historical predictive accuracy on determinable metrics (such as election results) by ProjectThirtyEight, a non-partisan analytics company that tracks all the major polling organizations. The results were striking.
The singular question was, “Do you believe underage minors should be required to wait until they are adults to use puberty blockers and undergo permanent sex change procedures?
Results: Overall 78.7% said “Wait”, representing a split between Democrats @ 53.2%, Republicans @ 96.8%, and Unaffiliated @ 84.6%.
In evaluating these results, don’t miss the full extent of the question which includes a broad range of practices, including, “permanent sex change procedures”. This is more than simple gender-affirming reversible medications. The watershed line being drawn is an expectation of permanent sex change procedures on children.
Still, as we approach the mid-term elections, disparity between the Republicans/Independents and the Democrats, could not be more striking.
Biblical Christian Advice
As Biblical Christians, we need to be careful not to alienate seekers, while still holding to our worldview. How we do that is to build bridges of care and compassion while, at the same time, when challenged, speak softly but clearly from a Biblically-based viewpoint.
Further, we need to reflect on the sins we participate in daily (James 4:17, Mark 7:20-23, Gal. 5:19-21) as we consider lightening rod, divisive issues such as transgenderism in others (Matt. 7:3).
However, regarding the poll above, there is a developmental reason children are legally under the care of responsible adults until the age of 18 and should not have the weight of making decisions regarding permanent changes to their bodies and their sexuality.
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” – Ephesians 6:1-3.
