Daily Headlines on contemporary issues that run counter to a Biblical Christian worldview.

Crime – Fox News – Philadelphia crime update: Police say carjackings almost tripled since 2019… The Philadelphia PD recorded 750 carjackings in 2021, compared to 230 in 2019… So far in 2022, there have been 32 homicides — a 19% increase compared to the same time period in 2021; and 114 shootings — a 25% increase compared to the same time period last year.

International Economy – CNN – “Biden ramps up meetings with his economic team amid rattled global markets… President Joe Biden on Wednesday will hold his second closed-door meeting with his senior economic team in less than a week, marking a notable increase in tempo as global markets are rattled by a mix of soaring inflation, Europe’s energy crisis and China’s downturn…. White House economic officials have also closely eyed the growing tumult in the United Kingdom, as new Prime Minister Liz Truss’ economic plan has thrown the economy into turmoil and already drawn a Bank of England intervention, officials say.”

Ukraine – Reuters – “Russian annexation of Ukraine territory expected within days… Moscow was poised on Wednesday to annex a swath of Ukraine, releasing what it called vote tallies showing support in four partially occupied provinces to join Russia, after what Kyiv and the West denounced as illegal sham referendums held at gunpoint… Russia says voting was voluntary, in line with international law, and that turnout was high. The referendums and notion of annexations has been rejected globally, as was Russia’s 2014 takeover of Crimea from Ukraine.”

Nord Stream Pipeline – CNN – “Western nations have said leaks in two Russian gas pipelines, Nord Stream 1 and 2, are likely the result of sabotage… Swedish authorities first sounded the alarm on Tuesday about leaks in the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines — both of which run under the Baltic Sea near Sweden and Denmark…. Neither pipeline was transporting gas to Europe when the attacks occurred; Russia shut off gas flows through the first pipeline weeks ago, and the second was scrapped by Germany after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, just before it was due to become operational. But both still contained gas under pressure.”

Looting – Yahoo News – “More than 100 teens ransack Philadelphia Wawa store in bizarre attack caught on video… Video obtained by CBS from behind the counter at the Wawa store on the 7000 block of Roosevelt Blvd shows the chaotic scene on Saturday. The teenagers could be seen throwing food across the store and dancing on top of the shelves.

IRS Errors – New York Post – “IRS sent over $1 billion in child tax credit payments to ineligible households: audit… The Internal Revenue Service erroneously sent more than $1 billion in child tax credit payments last year to millions of Americans who weren’t eligible for the free cash, an audit showed Tuesday… The audit also found while 3.3 million payments shouldn’t have been sent between July and November of last year, the IRS also failed to send payments worth $3.7 billion to the more than 4 million taxpayers who were eligible.”
