Believers – CA Police Force – The Washington Stand – “Newsom Bill Screens Out Believers from California Police Forces, Experts Warn…Late last month, Newsom signed a bill (AB 2229) requiring all police applicants to undergo a psychological evaluation to test “bias” based on “gender” or “sexual orientation.” A companion bill currently under consideration (AB 2547) would ask police departments to search “applicant social media profiles” for “content indicative of potential biases, such as affiliation with hate groups” — yet both measures merely build on existing laws and guidelines.”
Planet Killers – CNN – “‘Planet killer’ asteroid spotted hiding in the sun’s glare…Astronomers have spotted three near-Earth asteroids that were lurking undetected within the glare of the sun. One of the asteroids is the largest potentially hazardous object posing a risk to Earth to be discovered in the last eight years…. One of the asteroids, called 2022 AP7, is 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) wide and has an orbit that could bring it within Earth’s path in the future, but it’s difficult for the scientists to know when.”
Defending LGBTQ – NBC News – “’Leave them alone’: Tennessee mom slams homophobic attacks in viral video…Jessee Graham, a mom of four, told NBC News she felt a responsibility to speak out publicly to defend LGBTQ people in her community “who are under attack”… Fox’s [public library director] resignation last week came after months of community pushback over the library’s display of LGBTQ books for Pride Month in June. Community members were also dismayed when Fox’s bar, Bad Idea Brewery, hosted a drag brunch last month.”
Affirmative Action – ABC News – “Conservative majority skeptical as Supreme Court hears defense of affirmative action… Justices on both sides of the bench seemed to agree that the use of race as a factor in admissions should not continue indefinitely and that the court’s prior rulings said as much. They disagreed strongly on how to decide when a transition to race neutrality is warranted and whether the milestone has been met.”
