We Are Called

Scripture

Our verse for today comes from 1 Thessalonians 4:7-8, “For God did not call us to uncleanness, but unto holiness. therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.”

Background & Application

The scriptures are very clear that God has a unique calling on our lives. regardless of how your situation feels at the moment, we are not drifting along aimlessly through life, just trying to get by until we get to go home to our Lord. No, our Father has some real intentions for us while we live out our days here on earth. His Word, which He spoke to us, says we are called to be apostles, called by grace, called to be saints, called according to His purpose, called unto liberty, called the children of the living God, called unto the fellowship of Jesus, called to peace, called by the gospel, and called with a holy calling. God overwhelmingly has a plan and a purpose for us, and it is as distinct and clear as being called out of uncleanness unto holiness. When we walk in liberty rather than guilt, we are pursuing holiness. When we fellowship with Jesus instead of the world, we are tasting holiness. When we know peace amidst the chaos, we are experiencing holiness. When others see a child of the living God in us, then they are seeing His holiness. So if the world is calling you, reject it and answer the call of the Holy Spirit. His holy calling will keep you from drifting. It will keep you from uncleanness.

Charge

As we pray today, let’s listen for the calling that the Lord has on our life. Ask Him to show us any uncleanness that we may be holding onto, and to give us the strength to reject it. And thank Him that He keeps calling us, even when we reject Him.
