Daily Headlines on contemporary issues that run counter to a Biblical Christian worldview.
Congressman Retracts on Marriage – The Washington Stand – “Congressman Retracts on Marriage…“My record shows that I am a long-standing advocate against discrimination of all types,” he said. “I, however, cannot support any effort that undermines religious liberties by failing to provide legitimate safeguards for faith-based organizations that object based on their deeply-held religious beliefs.”
Jonny Hunt returns to Ministry – Denison Forum – “Two prominent pastors return to ministry: What Matt Chandler and Johnny Hunt can teach us about the role of humility and the dangers of entitlement…However, the investigation into sexual abuse claims in the SBC published earlier this year found that the real reason Hunt stepped down was that he was credibly accused of having sexually assaulted the wife of another pastor earlier that year. He never told his church and went to counseling in secret after the event but was forced to step down from his ministry positions in May of this year following the publication of the report. Of course, as Barber pointed out, the four men who chose to reinstate Hunt did not have the authority to do that either: “The idea that a council of pastors, assembled with the consent of the abusive pastor, possesses some authority to declare a pastor fit for resumed ministry is a conceit that is altogether absent from Baptist polity and from the witness of the New Testament. Indeed, it is repugnant to all that those sources extol and represent.”
Virginia Elementary School Satan Club – Daily Caller – “Virginia Elementary School Will Offer After-School Satan Club…The Satanic Temple has been approved to host an after-school program for students at a Virginia elementary school starting in December, according to reports…. The club’s flyer, which “After School Satan Club” national campaign director June Everett posted to Reddit, said the monthly Satanist meetings will teach children “benevolence and empathy, critical thinking, problem-solving, creative expression, personal sovereignty, and compassion.”
Supreme Court and Free Speech – World – “Supreme Court hears free speech, religious liberty case…The U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments Monday over whether a Christian artist in Colorado must design websites for same-sex marriages. Arguments ran well over the 70 minutes allotted for the discussion. Justice Sonia Sotomayor tried to draw parallels between same-sex marriages and interracial marriages, but Justice Samuel Alito questioned whether such comparisons were fair. The graphic artist, Lorie Smith, said she wants to expand her website design business to weddings. A Colorado law says she would have to serve everyone—including same-sex couples. Smith says the Colorado law infringes on her First Amendment right to free speech and religious freedom. The Supreme Court took up the question of free speech. “
Restaurant Discrimination – The Washington Stand – “Woke Virginia Restaurant Dishes Out Intolerance, Turns Christians Away…In a public statement on social media, the owners tried to justify the decision, explaining, “Metzger Bar and Butchery has always prided itself on being an inclusive environment for people to dine in. In eight years of service, we have very rarely refused service to anyone who wished to dine with us. Recently we refused service to a group that had booked an event with us after the owners of Metzger found out it was a group of donors to a political organization that seeks to deprive women and LGBTQ+ persons of their basic human rights in Virginia.”
